Cumbria Flood Relief

After seeing the news of the flooding in Cumbria we decided to hold a raffle to help raise money for a school in Cumbria called Flinby Primary.

Year 6 pupils held an assembly to introduce the fundraiser and encouraged pupils and staff to bring in any unwanted Christmas gifts to use in the raffle.

We showed some of the prizes that were up for grabs. The school community did such a great job with providing wonderful gifts such as: a chocolate fondue set, Jacqueline Wilson books and even a train set!

For four days after school, the Year 6 group sold tickets with enthusiasm.

The day of the raffle arrived, with parents, children and staff gathered in the hall. Everybody wanted to win the chocolate fondue set, it was the star prize. Year 4 pupils seemed to win the most prizes, however the star prize went to a delighted pupil from Reception.
The grand total our school raised was £150, an amazing amount!

The money raised will be going towards flood relief at Flimby Primary school. In addition, it will be helping families of children who attend Flimby Primary to help rebuild their lives after such devastating weather.

Childhood Chat

We enjoyed our visit to the Museum of childhood last week.

The special exhibition was all about child migration from England between 1869 and 1970. What did you learn about these children? How did it link to our topic?

We also explored the rest of the museum and discovered lots of toys and games from the past. Some displays brought back memories for our Year 6 teachers!

Which displays did you find most interesting and why?

Daylight robbery

A Maths teacher was an eye-witness to a robbery. Everything happened very quickly, but she was able to remember the number on the robber's T-shirt. When she got home, she wrote the number down. She also wrote down some clues about the number. She then gave the clues to her pupils to see if they could work out the number.

Can you work out the number from the clues?

  • It is an odd number
  • It has 4 digits
  • It is divisible by both 3 and 9
  • When it is divided by 21, there is no remainder
  • All the digits are different
  • The total of the first two digits is double the totals of the last two digits
  • The number is between 2999 and 5000

Heritage Collage

After interviewing Miss Diss about aspects of her heritage, Ashraf (6 red) has made a fantastic start at designing a collage using the online editing tool 'Pixlr'.  How do you think each image represents an aspect of Miss Diss' heritage?

This week in ICT we will be designing our own heritage collages using 'Pixlr.' Which aspects of your heritage will you show through images?

Don't forget that we must be careful when we use online images in our own work. Why is this? How can we ensure we use the right images?
